If you want to make a normal static site written using markdown in SMC, there is an “old fashioned” approach, since a full sort of wiki-ish browsing mode isn’t implemented yet.

Write your markdown code with normal links, etc. Then use pandoc to convert everything to html (see SO)

Finally point users at the raw link to the html, which you can get by clicking on checkbox next to the file then “download” (then replace .md by .html):
