TITLE: Stacks and Moduli

Abstract:
A stack is a natural generalization of a scheme in the setting of moduli spaces, just as a scheme is a natural generalization of an algebraic variety in the setting of commutative rings. We will describe in a basic and motivated way the notion of a stack, with an eye towards moduli of elliptic curves.
